10 Tips for Keeping Your Home Safe
  1. Report any unusual cars, persons or activity to the police right away. Call 310-378-4211 or 9-1-1
  2. Don’t open your door to anyone you don’t know
  3. Keep your garage door closed, even when at home
  4. Lock your doors and windows when you are in the house or going out “just for a minute or two"
  5. Use your alarm if you have one
  6. Install motion sensor lighting and or a home security system
  7. Do not post details on social media sites such as vacation plans, large purchases etc.
  8. Let your neighbors know if you will be away on vacation so they are aware you are not home, and notify the PVE Police by submitting a Vacation form (click here)
  9. Join Neighborhood Watch and get engaged in the community
  10. Sign up for Alert SouthBay to get emergency notifications from the PVE PD

Be aware of crimes in your neighborhood. The PVE PD sends out a weekly community update that includes the Crime Report, City events and opportunities available to PVE Residents.

Use these resources to improve the safety of your home.  

  • Neighborhood Safety:  Get to know your neighbors and help with crime watch.  Its our most powerful crime prevention strategy.  
  • Tips for House Numbers:  Improve the visibility of your house number to help emergency responders verify your home.  
  • Window & Door Safety:  Find out simple ways to protect your home from unwanted intruders when windows and doors are open.  
  • Car Safety:  Car break-ins can be avoided. Find out recommendations on how to avoid this crime and tips on protecting your car from catalytic converter thefts.
  • ​Emergency Preparedness Tips:  Simple things that you can do to make sure you are prepared for emergency, disaster, power outages or evacuation.  Also access local, county and national links and resources that will help you for any type of emergency.  
  • Fire Safety:  ​Find out what you can do to make your home and property more fire safe.  There are amazing new products out on the market.  
  • Get Emergency Notifications from the PVE PD:  Receive text, phone or email notifications of emergency and traffic issues.​
  • Articles Library:  This archive includes information you can use to prevent identify theft, protect yourself from coyotes and more.
