Family "Power Out" Night

October 30, 2022

Let's make it fun to be prepared!
In our City, we have planned and unplanned power outages.  Is your family prepared  if your power is out for a few hours or a few days?

Use this this evening to create a fun and educational Halloween “spooky” tradition to help your family be prepared in case there is a power outage in the future.

Family "Power Out" Night

This is a PVE Neighborhood Watch original event designed to make planning for an emergency a fun and educational experience for your whole family.

Set aside 1 - 2 hours (or even a full evening) to live without power.  Use the checklist below for preparation and the evening events.  Engage the whole family so that it is a learning and connecting experience.

Have fun and take pictures.  Let us know how your evening went.

How to Prepare for Family "Power Out" Night

Have a brainstorming session and create a shopping list with your family a few days before the event.
  • What would you need if you had no power for:
    • Lights?
    • Computers?
    • Cooking?
    • Entertainment?
  • What will you do on "Lights Out" night?
    • Have a barbecue? Candlelit dinner?
    • Share scary stories around your fire pit?
    • See with candles or battery lanterns?
    • Play charades, games or do some star-gazing?
    • Dress up as superheroes?
  • Print and post a "We're participating in "Power Out" Night" sign in your front yard or window (there are 3 sign options).
