PVE Neighborhood Watch Supports Crime Deterrent Inititive
(9/7/23)
The PVE Neighborhood Watch has proudly donated $3500 to the campaign for The Crime Deterrent Initiative fundraiser being coordinated by the PVE Foundation.
This project was initiated based on resident and Police Department requests. It will provide an update and expansion of the ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) system which has been a helpful tool for our police department in the apprehension of suspects.
What is an ALPR System?
One of the tools of the PVE Police Department which has been used successfully over the past few years has been the ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) system. This is a camera system that reads the license plates of incoming and outgoing vehicles in various locations in our city and alerts of stolen vehicles or other suspicious activities.
“ALPRs are used by the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department to convert data associated with vehicle license plates for official law enforcement purposes, including identifying stolen or wanted vehicles, stolen license plates and missing persons. ALPRs may also be used to gather information related to active warrants, homeland security, electronic surveillance, suspect interdiction and stolen property recovery.”
The PVE PD has partnered with other peninsula cities in this program which also have their own camera systems.
