National Good Neighbor Day

September 28, 2023
Let's Create an Epidemic of Kindness!

Neighbors connecting with neighbors is an important part of PVE Neighborhood Watch. When we know each other and watch out for each other, we keep our neighborhoods safer.

PVE Neighborhood Watch started celebrating in 2020.  We had a number of creative neighbor support activities through the year, generating smiles and connection (see photos).

This is a great year to get to know new neighbors and reconnect with our longtime neighbors. Think of a creative way to get to know and reach out and show kindness to your neighbors.

About National Good Neighbor Day

September 28, is Good Neighbor Day.  In 1978 it became a national day, created by President Jimmy Carter.  It is aimed at raising public awareness that good neighbors help achieve human understanding and build strong, thriving communities.

Ideas for Reaching out to Your Neigbhbors

  • Give a friendly wave while out for your walk
  • Drop a greeting card or make a phone call
  • Post a joke, inspiration or encouragement for passersby to see
  • Add a Teddy Bear or animal to your front window, porch or yard to greet those out walking
  • Drop off some flowers
  • Create a front yard breakfast gathering

Keep updated on all our events by joining PVE Neighborhood Watch.

The "Good Neighbor" Pledge
I pledge to be the "good neighbor." With the goal of becoming a more connected and caring community, I will be a person who lives with kindness and concern for my neighbors.

I’ll take the first step by connecting with neighbors and introduce myself. I will practice the "good neighbor mindset" to make connections, invitations, stay aware and be available to my neighbors. Good neighbors make great neighborhoods.
