Update 7/6/2020: Thank you to all who participated to make this event a success!
- Lunada Bay Hardware: We greatly appreciate their support of our “Show Your Colors” City-Wide Flag Celebration. They distributed our PVE Neighborhood Watch “Flag Flying Days” magnets (some still available) and served as our main flag drop-off location for old flags to be retired. They said that they sold more flags than usual.
- Local Scout, Isabella Brannan: She collected more than 300 flags for her leadership project to work towards her Eagle Scout designation. PVE Neighborhood Watch representative, Karen Logan, City Councilman Kenny Kao and PVE PD Interim Chief Dan Dreiling were able to attend the flag retirement ceremony via Zoom. Due to COVID restrictions, only the participating scouts were able to be at the flag retirement ceremony held at the Point Vincente Lighthouse.
- Our Faithful and Generous PVE Residents: Without your exuberant participation in these events, our scout and local businesses would not have experienced the support and success they did. We hope that you have discovered or rediscovered our local businesses and will choose them for your future needs. Their presence in our community makes it special. Our involvement and support is integral. Let’s keep them in business.

Meet Isabella Brannan, Local PVE Scout
My name is Isabella Brannan and I am finishing up my sophomore year at Palos Verdes High School. My favorite subject is life science. I also like learning Spanish and World History. I enjoy tennis and Jiu-Jitsu, a Brazilian wrestling martial art and played doubles on the Junior Varsity Tennis team.
I’m really enjoying my Scouting experience and I’ve learned many great outdoor skills. My favorite skills are knots, lashings, fire building, archery, plant identification, and animal tracks. Since joining scouting, I’ve gone on many fun camping trips and have made lots of memories with the nature-loving, energetic, and caring girls in my troop.
I am excited to be working on my Eagle Scout service project and hope to be one of the first girls in the nation to earn this esteemed rank. For this service project, I am collecting old American flags so they can be retired properly, and I am educating the community on the proper care, maintenance and retirement of flags. I will also be building two permanent flag collection boxes to be placed at the Palos Verdes Estates City Hall. At the end of this project, I will lead my troop in a flag retirement ceremony for the City of PVE.
You can help me by donating your old flags (at the locations noted above) for our retirement ceremony and by supporting my fundraiser at MOD Pizza on June 4 so I can buy materials and supplies for my project.
